New Homepage for Journal of Dairy Science ®

ADSA members can now access the Journal of Dairy Science via Elsevier's HealthConnect platform beginning with this issue. Go to http://www.journalofdairyscience.org/ today to activate your subscription and access the journal on its new homepage. Follow the 5 simple steps below to activate your JDS subscription on the new home page:

1.Go to www.journalofdairyscience.org/

2.Click on Activate Online Access link in bottom right corner of the screen (under Journal Access).

3.As a New User, you will need to Register. Enter your e-mail address and a password of your choice in the Register box and then click Continue. At the Create a Profile page, provide the requested information and click Continue. Click Continue again when asked to claim access to the journal.

4.On the Member/Non-member page, click YES to the question “Are you a member?”

5.Select “American Dairy Science Association,” then fill in your Society member number and your last name. Click Continue to validate your access.

S-PAC Keeps Growing

S-PAC (Searchable Proceedings of Animal Conferences) is the most comprehensive database of animal production and management conference proceedings in the world. Topics range from nutrition and management to herd health, animal care, and bioethics. Currently, 35 participating conferences have contributed 299 sets of proceeding and presentations to this unique and growing searchable collection, making it a must-have resource for animal scientists, veterinarians, academicians, consultants, and members of industry around the world. Nineteenth Discover Conference on Food Animal Agriculture: Key Issues in the Sustainability of the Dairy Industry, May 11–14, 2010, Brown County Inn, Nashville, Indiana.

Ninth World Congress on Genetics Applied to Livestock Production, August 1–6, 2010, Leipzig, Germany. The congress is the premier meeting point for scientists involved in genetic improvement of livestock around the world. Much has changed in the field of applied livestock genetics over the past 50 years and certainly over the last 35 years since the first WCGALP was held in Madrid, Spain, in 1974. Abstract submission deadline is February 28, 2010; early bird registration deadline is January 31, 2010, and regular registration is open from February 1 through May 31, 2010. Positions Available…

The deadline for the submission of position announcements for publication in the Journal of Dairy Science is the 25th day of the month, two months preceding the month of issue. For example, ads submitted by May 25 will be printed in the July issue of the journal.

Fees for ads are based on membership in the American Dairy Science Association or the American Society of Animal Science. For members, the flat fee is $150; for others, $250. We do not accept display ads. Ads from agencies are not commissionable.

Position announcements should be electronically submitted, using the form on the Federation of Animal Science Societies (FASS) Web site, http://www.fass.org/job.asp, for publication in the printed version of the journal and online at the FASS Job Resource Center. Ads that appear in the printed version will automatically be posted online at no extra charge. Ads that are received past the deadline will appear only on the Web site.

If electronic submission is impossible, ads can be e-mailed to fass@assochq.org. Ads should be formatted as a single paragraph; complete sentences should be used. Advertisers will receive an invoice after the ad is posted or published; those who meet print publication deadline will receive a tearsheet with the invoice.

Assistant Professor of Integrative Animal Physiology. The Department of Animal Science within the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences (CALS) at Cornell University (Ithaca, NY) invites applications for a tenure-track position as assistant professor of integrative animal physiology. This is a 9-month research (50%) and teaching (50%) position. The successful applicant will develop and lead an externally funded research program devoted to the discovery of physiological mechanisms underlying the productivity, well-being, and health of domestic animals. Physiological processes of interest include, but are not limited to, developmental programming, reproduction, lactation, growth, digestion and metabolism, and immune function. The research program should capitalize on opportunities to utilize state-of-the-art core facilities in genomics, proteomics, and transgenic animals. The use of domestic animals as biomedical models is desirable. Motivation to develop strong collaborations within the department and across the university is essential. Qualifications include a PhD with training and demonstrated competence in integrated animal physiology. Postdoctoral experience and an interest in domestic or companion animals are preferred. Applicants must be committed to both research and teaching excellence. Teaching responsibility will include a primary role in delivering an introductory undergraduate course on domestic animal biology. Contribution to an advanced or graduate course in the appointee's disciplinary expertise as well as advising and mentoring of undergraduate and graduate students is expected. Laboratory space and an excellent start-up package will be offered. A competitive salary will be commensurate with training and experience, and an attractive fringe benefits package will be provided. Associate or Full Professor, Equine Sciences. The Department of Animal Sciences at Colorado State University invites applications for the position of director of undergraduate programs equine sciences (a 9-month tenure-track appointment at the rank of associate or full professor consisting of 35% administration, 35% instruction and engagement, and 30% research). The director will determine strategic direction of all undergraduate programs in equine sciences and oversee undergraduate curriculum development and program delivery and assessment. Associate or Full Professor. Associate/full professor for the John E. Rouse Endowed Chair in Beef Cattle Genetics, Department of Animal Sciences, Colorado State University. The John E. Rouse family has established the Rouse Chair in Beef Cattle Genetics. The CSU Department of Animal Sciences currently is seeking applications to fill this prestigious chair. The Rouse Chair is a tenured faculty position that primarily conducts research in the area of beef genetics. Applicants should be internationally recognized experts in genetics and the use of genomic data in a bioinformatic approach to enhance existing beef genetic evaluation and improvement programs.
