where y1 and y2 were vectors of BCS and CI observations, respectively; y3 and y4 were vectors of observations on 2 other traits, which could be yield traits (MY, FY, or PY), SCS, or linear type traits; β1, β2, β3, and β4 were unknown vectors of fixed effects; u1, u2, u3, and u4 were unknown vectors of random additive genetic effects of animals; e1, e2, e3, and e4 were vectors of random residuals; X1, X2, X3, and X4 were known incidence matrices relating fixed effects in β1, β2, β3, and β4 to y1, y2, y3, and y4, respectively; and Z1, Z2, Z3, and Z4 were known incidence matrices relating additive genetic effects in u1, u2, u3, and u4 to y1, y2, y3, and y4, respectively.
I was an identity matrix of appropriate order, A was the numerator of Wright's relationship matrix, σe12, σe22, σe32 and σe42 were residual variance components, σa12, σa22, σa32 and σa42 were additive genetic variance components, σe1e2, σe1e3, σe1e4, σe2e3, σe2e4, and σe3e4 were residual covariance components, and σa1a2, σa1a3, σa1a4, σa2a3, σa2a4, were additive genetic covariance components.
