Journal of Dairy Science Supports ORCID Initiative
The Journal of Dairy Science is in the process of implementing support for ORCID (Open Researcher and Contributor ID; http://orcid.org), a means to uniquely identify researchers and link them to their research activities and output (e.g., publications, grants, patents). ORCID is an “open, non-profit, communitydriven effort to create and maintain a registry of unique researcher identifiers and a transparent method of linking research activities and outputs to these identifiers” (http://orcid.org/about). ORCID is being integrated into the workflows of many scientific associations, publishers, universities, institutions, grant funders, and government agencies.
ORCID benefits you as an ADSA member and JDS author in several ways:
- 1.ORCID links authors—and all their name variants—with their publications, improving the quality of author search results.
- 2.ORCID identifiers facilitate the creation and maintenance of author and reviewer profiles and can support disambiguation of author names and linking to external information.
- 3.Embedding ORCID identifiers in research workflows (including manuscript submission) supports timely and accurate attribution by automating the researcher–research link. In turn, the ORCID registry can serve an important role in supporting efforts in the publishing community, including conflict of interest reporting and author role acknowledgment.
The ORCID Registry is available free of charge to individual researchers, who may obtain an ORCID identifier, manage their record of activities, and search for others in the Registry. To participate in ORCID, follow the simple registration process (https://orcid.org/register) and start adding your professional information. Once you have an ORCID identifier, you can add it to your user account in ScholarOne Manuscripts or contact the editorial office (journals@assochq.org) for assistance with adding your ORCID.
Positions Available …
The deadline for the submission of position announcements for publication in the Journal of Dairy Science is the 25th day of the month, two months preceding the month of issue. For example, ads submitted by May 25 will be printed in the July issue of the journal.
Fees for ads are based on membership in the American Dairy Science Association or the American Society of Animal Science. For members, the flat fee is $150; for others, $250. We do not accept display ads. Ads from agencies are not commissionable.
Position announcements should be electronically submitted, using the form on the Federation of Animal Science Societies (FASS) Web site, http://www.fass.org/job.asp, for publication in the printed version of the journal and online at the FASS Job Resource Center. Ads that appear in the printed version will automatically be posted online at no extra charge. Ads that are received past the deadline will appear only on the Web site.
If electronic submission is impossible, ads can be e-mailed to fass@assochq.org. Ads should be formatted as a single paragraph; complete sentences should be used. Advertisers will receive an invoice after the ad is posted or published; those who meet print publication deadline will receive a tearsheet with the invoice.

- •Assistant/Associate Professor—Ruminant Nutrition and Metabolism. Two 12-month, tenuretrack positions are available in the Department of Animal and Veterinary Science at the University of Idaho in Moscow. Responsibilities are 70% research/scholarly activity and 30% teaching/advising. Expectations in research include developing and leading a nationally recognized program in nutrition or metabolism of cattle. The research programs must be relevant to the needs of Idaho and, thus, will be focused on dairy and beef. These independent programs must also serve the needs of national dairy and beef industries and as such be capable of attracting external funding from federal, state, and industry sources. The research programs will complement existing research programs in the department and the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences including reproduction, lactation, growth physiology, meat science, macro- and micro-nutrient metabolism, nutrient management, and environmental sustainability. Teaching responsibilities between the two positions include (1) a senior-level beef management course (3 credits), (2) principles of nutrition (3 credits), (3) an applied nutrition and metabolism course (3 credits), and (4) participation in other undergraduate and graduate courses based upon expertise. Other duties include academic advising of undergraduate students and serving as the major professor and committee member of graduate students. Participation in student extracurricular activities is both encouraged and expected. - •Lecturer Contract Position in Animal Science. The Department of Biological Sciences in the College of Life Sciences and Agriculture (COLSA) at the University of New Hampshire (UNH) seeks an outstanding applicant for the position of lecturer in animal science, an academic-year position (88% time) with an initial contract of 3 years, and an expected starting date of January 15. Strong candidates who would not be available until after that date will be considered. The position is renewable pending satisfactory annual performance. Lecturers are expected to teach 24 credits or the equivalent per academic year. A typical course is 4 credits. The successful candidate will develop and offer courses in small ruminant, camelid, swine, and poultry diseases; animal rights and societal issues; and a multi-species capstone course for seniors. The candidate will provide 8 additional credits of courses based upon the candidate's expertise and the priority needs of the college (as determined jointly by the Department Chair and COLSA Dean). In addition to academic-year responsibilities, the successful candidate may, at the discretion of the Department Chair and the approval of the Associate Dean of COLSA, receive additional compensation for teaching during the summer months or the winter J-term. This position supports undergraduate students in both the 4-year animal science (BS degree) and 2-year Thompson School of Applied Science (associates in applied science degree) program as well as students in sustainable agriculture and food systems (BS/BA degrees) and pre-veterinary medicine within COLSA. The on-campus teaching and research animal facilities available at UNH provide a wealth of opportunities for hands-on, practical experience with agricultural animals, including the Fairchild Dairy Teaching and Research Center, the Lou and Lutza Smith Equine Center, the Burley-Demeritt Organic Dairy Research Farm, and aquaculture facilities.

The successful candidate will have a graduate degree (MS required, PhD or DVM preferred) in animal science or closely related field. Preference will be given to candidates with experience teaching at the college level and experience in delivering or developing online courses. The successful candidate will be expected to have a commitment to diversity and inclusivity as well as an ability to attract student interest in expanding fields of animal science (nutrition, genetics, reproduction, management, and health) and the diversified small farm that is characteristic of the state and region.
